Abstract:
In the animal kingdom, mating behavior is a universal phenomenon, and the first step in this process is locating a suitable partner. Hearing often plays a critical role in this recognition. But how do animals detect species-specific sounds in environments filled with noise? To address this question, we have focused on the mating behavior of fruit flies and mosquitoes. In this lecture, we will present our findings on the auditory mechanisms that underpin mosquito mating behavior—an area of growing importance as these insects pose severe health threats to humankind.
