Abstract:
We develop two methods (GLMCC and CoNNECT) for estimating synaptic connectivity in units of postsynaptic potentials from parallel spike trains. Here we extend the cross-correlation method (Aertsen and Gerstein, 1985) to incorporate the large fluctuations in neural signals in vivo. We verified these methods by applying them to simulated and experimental data. The proposed method allows researchers to reconstruct a circuit diagram of a neural network, which offers an opportunity to elucidate computational mechanisms based on the structure.
