“Diffusion MRI study on early visual white matter pathways in the human brain”

by Hiromasa Takemura
Researcher (Tenure-track), CiNet/NICT

Host PI: Ikuhiro Kida

Abstract:
A recent progress in diffusion MRI and tractography methods provides opportunities for neuroscientists to study white matter pathways in living humans. In the first part of this talk, I will briefly introduce concepts and principles of diffusion MRI and tractography methods. I will then introduce my recent study on early visual white matter pathways in humans, in relation to retinal disorders and MEG measurements on latency of early visually evoked response. Finally, I will discuss possible future directions of diffusion MRI studies on the human visual system by discussing preliminary findings obtained from multi-shot diffusion MRI acquisition method and post-mortem polarized light imaging.

About CiNet’s Friday Lunch Seminars:
The Friday Lunch Seminar is CiNet’s main regular meeting series, held every week at 12:15 in the beautiful main lecture theatre on the ground floor at CiNet. The talks are typically 40mins long and orientated towards an inter-disciplinary audience. They are informal, social, and most people bring their own lunch to eat during the talk. They are open to anyone who is feeling curious and wants to come, regardless of where you work.
