Abstract:
Have you ever wondered how publishing in the ‘Nature’ journals works? Or about what scientific editors actually do? In this talk, I will provide an insider’s view of publishing in Nature Human Behaviour and the career path of a full-time professional scientific editor. In the first part, I will discuss the journal’s multidisciplinary scope, editorial mission, and commitment to robust scientific practices, transparency, and research integrity. I will offer insight on the editorial and peer‑review processes, from submission and initial assessment through revision, decision‑making, and appeals. In the second part, I will discuss the role of a professional journal editor, including day‑to‑day responsibilities, challenges, career trajectories, and my own personal experience with the journal since 2022. The talk is designed to demystify academic publishing and support researchers considering both submission strategies and alternative careers in science.
