Abstract:
Subdural electrocorticography (ECoG) signals have been proposed as a stable, good-quality source for brain-machine interfaces (BMIs), with a higher spatial and temporal resolution than electroencephalography (EEG). In addition, functional electrical stimulation (FES) showed the potential to control selectively upper limb muscles, generating multiple functional grips, hand opening. Some researchers are trying to integrate FES devices with direct controlling translated from brain signal through BMI-FES system. In this study, we designed and evaluated an implantable electrocorticography device for brain signal recording, and two epineural cuffs for peripheral nerve stimulation. We expect our results could be a support to bridge BMI device with FES device, and lay a foundation for future brain-controlled FES research.
