Abstract:
Communication robots are expected to provide a variety of support services through interaction with people. They have been reported to be especially effective for the elderly and patients with mental illness.
In the past, research on human-robot interaction has examined the effects of actual interaction with robots using psychological scales and motor information such as gaze and movement. However, in recent years, researchers have started to focus on brain activity during interaction to investigate the effects of actual interaction on the brain and control robot behavior based on brain activity to facilitate smooth interaction with humans.
In this presentation, I will introduce our ongoing research to realize human-robot interaction using brain activity during the interaction.
First, we will report the effect of the robot’s appearance on brain activity. Next, we will present a method for detecting subjective difficulty based on the cognitive load during a working memory task.
Finally, we will introduce our ongoing efforts to investigate how humans are affected by robot interaction from multi-layer information among human behavior, brain activity, and metabolites.
