Abstract:
Nonhuman primates are widely utilized as test platforms for neuroscience due to their wide repertoire of behaviors that mimic both normal and disease states in human beings, and the similarity in behaviors stems from a highly conserved neural architecture between species. To understand how behavioural states emerge from the interactions of complex neural networks, it is essential to define and understand the role played by specific pathways and nodes with in the networks that comprise functional brain systems. In this talk, I will introduce several genetic or optogenetic manipulation techniques we recently established, that allows discrete targeting of functionally specific neural pathways.
