Abstract:
Well-being is an umbrella term used to refer to notions such as “happiness”, “the good life” or a “fulfilling existence”. Broadly defined, well-being has been associated with a host of positive outcomes, from longevity to better health, to greater creativity and more productive workplaces. Due to the breadth of the reported benefits, well-being has increasingly drawn the attention of scholars, policymakers, practitioners, and the general public in recent years. Yet, the neurobiological mechanisms underlying such a state remain elusive.
In this talk, I will explain how well-being is defined in the realm of psychology research, how it is measured, and what are the current problems, challenges, and knowledge gaps in the field. I will also share some preliminary results of our attempt to identify potential drivers of well-being among Japanese individuals based on self-report data and discuss the possible implications of these findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
