{"id":53,"date":"2022-04-03T21:42:57","date_gmt":"2022-04-03T12:42:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/192.168.0.204\/www\/php8\/kisc\/wp_trial\/cinet_wp\/?page_id=53"},"modified":"2022-11-01T11:42:34","modified_gmt":"2022-11-01T02:42:34","slug":"history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/cinetjp-static3.nict.go.jp\/english\/research\/history\/","title":{"rendered":"History"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-container-3 wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-container-1 wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:45%\">\n<p>CiNet is supported by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nict.go.jp\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">NICT<\/a>) &#8211; a government funded institute (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.soumu.go.jp\/english\/\" target=\"_blank\">via MIC<\/a>) that has been at the heart of Japanese innovation and technology for over 100 years. In 2011, NICT launched CiNet as a major inter-disciplinary research initiative to exploit rapidly advancing insights into the brain, and to use this knowledge to develop pioneering new neuroscience-based technologies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-container-2 wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:55%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img src=\"http:\/\/cinetjp-static3.nict.go.jp\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/history_p003.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Toshio Yanagida, Shigeru Kitazawa and Seiji Ogawa<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Toshio Yanagida was appointed director in 2011, leading a team of Japan&#8217;s most eminent scientists, including Shojiro Nishio (Information and Computer Science), Mitsuo Kawato (Neuroscience and Robotics), Shinro Mashiko (Information Technology, Physics), Masayuki Murata (Information and Network Science), Kazumasa Enami (Communications Technology), Kazuhiro Oiwa (Biophysics and Neuroscience), and Yoshichika Yoshioka (Imaging Technology). They formed CiNet as a collaborative venture with\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.osaka-u.ac.jp\/en\" target=\"_blank\">Osaka University<\/a>\u00a0and the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.atr.jp\/index_e.html\" target=\"_blank\">ATR<\/a>). Seiji Ogawa, the inventor of fMRI, and Kunihiro Kato (Information Technology) were appointed chief scientific advisors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cinetjp-static3.nict.go.jp\/english\/shigeru-kitazawa-director-of-cinet\/\">Shigeru Kitazawa<\/a>\u00a0succeeded Toshio Yanagida as Director of CiNet on April 1, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-container-8 wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-container-7 wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<div class=\"wp-container-6 wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-container-4 wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:40%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/cinetjp-static3.nict.go.jp\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/history_p002.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-138\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-container-5 wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:55%\">\n<p>On behalf of NICT, their goal was to forge a young and diverse team of the most innovative and imaginative scientists from a variety of disciplines to lead a new integrated program of neuroscience and technology research under one roof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CiNet&#8217;s central research facility opened in April 2013. Several CiNet researchers also maintain laboratories on site at Osaka University, as well as at ATR (Kyoto) and NICT (Kobe).
