Abstract:
Humans must master many complex tasks throughout their lives\u2014some of which, like detecting cancer in medical images, are critical to human health and wellbeing. In this talk, I will present two recent projects that explore how we can improve human learning by leveraging insights into neural mechanisms. First, I will discuss how combining category learning with visual perceptual learning can enhance the generalizability of perceptual improvements. Second, I will describe how immersive virtual reality environments, enriched with naturalistic movement, can optimize learning in challenging categorization tasks.
