The regulation of feeding behavior is influenced by several physiological systems. In humans and animals, feeding to obtain the substances and energy needed for nutrition and energy metabolism is referred to as homeostatic feeding. However, animals and humans sometimes overfeed beyond the physiological controls that regulate homeostatic feeding. The question is why overfeeding occurs. To address this question, I have developed a behavioral model of binge-like sugar consumption in an experimental model by manipulating the timing and pattern of feeding in mice. The objective of this seminar is to present the functional changes of the rewarding system in the midbrain and the feeding inhibitory system in the brainstem that are involved in binge-like sucrose consumption. Additionally, the brain mechanism of overfeeding behavior will be discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
