Talk Title: Mental Wellbeing: From Neuroscience to Clinical Translation<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abstract:
Mental wellbeing is an integral part of our mental health, and is an independent construct to psychological distress or mental illness. A dual-factor approach recognises the importance of measuring and observing both constructs in mental health as the presence of one does not necessarily imply the absence of the other. The purpose of today\u2019s talk is to touch on the research conducted within my research group at the Centre for Wellbeing, Resilience and Recovery at Neuroscience Research Australia and UNSW. This work aims to differentiate the underlying neurobiological markers of mental wellbeing versus illness and resilience to adversity, and how these outcomes can feed into wellbeing interventions. I will touch on the aims and outcomes of several streams of research within my program pertaining to predictive mechanisms (including genetics, environment, cognition, coping, personality and brain function), preventative interventions (e.g., the Thrive wellbeing program for healthcare workers, and the smartphone app ReNeuWell\u00ae), and our work in children and adolescents (including development of the COMPAS-KIDS wellbeing scale and observing wellbeing differences in clinical and non-clinical adolescent groups).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
