In particular, inhibition between functional brain regions (e.g. Cross-modal inhibition) is assumed to be important for a certain brain region to function without interference from other regions, but its mechanism has not been fully understood. We have been investigating inter-regional inhibition in the human brain, using negative BOLD signals, which can be measured by functional MRI and are thought to reflect neuronal inhibition.
