By virtue of the recent great advances in computer graphics technology, mechanisms for the perception of object material properties have been extensively investigated in the last 15 years. The most well explored mechanisms would be those for perception of glossiness, one of the surface reflectance properties. However, little is known about effects of glossiness on higher cognition. In this talk, I will first introduce both previous and our studies on how humans perceive glossiness.
