“Fluctuations in global network properties of human brain functional connectivity”

Abstract:

Recent advancements in measurement and analysis of resting-state fMRI data allow tracking fluctuations in human brain functional connectivity on a time scale of tens of seconds. Fluctuations in functional connectivity were studied mainly at the individual edge level in the beginning, while global network-level fluctuations in functional connectivity have received more attention nowadays, because of recent reports on their potential relation to behavior and cognition. In this seminar, I will talk about studies on characterizing the spatial patterning of these global network-level connectivity fluctuations, which I worked on when I was in Indiana University. In particular, global fluctuating patterns regarding to the relationship between task-positive and task-negative systems and the relationship between structural connectivity and functional connectivity will be presented. Finally I will briefly introduce a follow-up modeling study that examines the reproducibility of these global fluctuations observed in empirical data.
