Abstract:

Diffuse optical tomography (DOT) is an advanced imaging method to increase spatial resolution of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) measurement. Previously, we have proposed a hierarchical Bayesian (HB) DOT algorithm. The HB-DOT algorithm accurately reconstructs not only the cortical activity but also the scalp activity, which causes the artifact signal in NIRS measurement, by using distinct prior distributions for the scalp and the cortical activities. We have already verified its performance for task-evoked cortical activities. It showed improved spatial-pattern similarity and fewer false positives than the standard DOT algorithm. Currently, we study its performance for resting-state cortical activities. We evaluate the DOT performance by comparing the functional connectivity (FC) matrix derived from DOT and that from fMRI.
Our preliminary results indicate that HB-DOT shows better FC matrix correlation with fMRI than the standard DOT methods. The results indicate that the HB-DOT method well generalizes to resting-state activity measurement.

About CiNet's Friday Lunch Seminars:
The Friday Lunch Seminar is CiNet's main regular meeting series, held every week at 12:15 in the beautiful main lecture theatre on the ground floor at CiNet. The talks are typically 40mins long and orientated towards an inter-disciplinary audience. They are informal, social, and most people bring their own lunch to eat during the talk. They are open to anyone who is feeling curious and wants to come, regardless of where you work.
