I will review a framework for investigating emotion, and work in humans from our own laboratory. The work will focus on a structure that has received particular attention: the amygdala. From studies of patients with amygdala lesions, we know that the amygdala is necessary for specific forms of fear. Single-unit recordings and fMRI studies of the amygdala corroborate this picture, but also demonstrate that the amygdala plays a more flexible and context-dependent role in processing emotions. This role highlights the important connection between emotional signals and social communication, a connection that may be abnormal in certain disorders such as autism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About CiNet\u2019s Monthly Seminar:<\/strong><br>In CiNet Monthly Seminar, distinguished external (national and international) speakers will give a lecture about their latest work.
