Specific Research Topic:

Pain and thermosensory perception, chronic pain

My main research interests are to understand the underlying mechanisms of pain and thermosensory processing in the brain and its physiological effects in the autonomic nervous system. This triggers experimental questions that we endeavor to answer using structural and functional imaging techniques and analysis of the human brain such as EEG, MEG and fMRI, and physiological measurements such as heart rate variability. Moreover, I am also interested in understanding the therapeutic effects of physical therapies such as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and transcranial magnetic stimulation, and traditional medicine such as acupuncture and moxibution.
